How can we help?

Short answers to the most common questions about Attent. Still stuck? Email us directly, we read every message ourselves.

Getting started

Three steps to get going.

  1. Install Attent and open the app

You can start right away without an account. Pick "Continue without account" on the welcome screen. You can always link Google, Apple, or email later to carry your data over to a new phone.

  2. Add your first person

Tap the plus button → Contact. A name is enough to start; birth date, phone number, email, and notes are all optional. In a hurry? Import from your phone book — Attent only reads what it needs, and nothing is saved until you tap save.

  3. Let Attent remember

If your contact has a birth date, the birthday is already there. Add anniversaries, memorial days, or milestones via the plus button → Event. Set reminders per event, or use your default from Settings.

Reminders

How do I turn on notifications?

The first time you save a contact, Attent asks for notification permission. Didn't get the prompt or accidentally denied it? Go to Settings → Reminders & devices and tap "Enable notifications". If you turned them off at the OS level, open your phone's system settings and re-enable notifications for Attent.

I'm not getting a reminder even though the event exists.

A few things to check, in order of likelihood:

1. Are notifications for Attent enabled in your system settings?
2. Does the event itself have a reminder configured (open the event, "Reminders" section)?
3. Is your phone on silent or focus mode at the reminder time?
4. On a new device: open Attent once so it can schedule upcoming reminders locally.

Still no luck? Send us your reminder setup (a screenshot is fine) via contact.

How do I set a default reminder for every new event?

Go to Settings → Reminders & devices → Default reminder. Pick for example "1 day before, 9:00 AM". That value is pre-filled on every new event, including derived birthdays. Existing events keep whatever you set on them.

Can I have multiple reminders per event?

Yes. Open the event, tap "Add reminder" and pick for example "1 week before" alongside "1 day before". Each reminder can also have a specific time.

Account & sync

I got a new phone. How do I bring my data over?

If your previous install was linked to Google, Apple, or email: install Attent on your new phone, sign in with the same method, and your contacts, events, and preferences will appear. Reminders are automatically scheduled on the new device.

Still using Attent anonymously? Link your account on your old phone first via Settings → Account → link Google/Apple/email. That way your existing data survives the move.

I got signed out / my data looks "empty".

If you were anonymous and uninstalled the app, the anonymous session is lost because it isn't tied to any sign-in. Linked accounts can always sign back in via Settings → Account with the same method as before.

Which sign-in methods does Attent support?

Google, Apple (on iOS), and email with password. You can link more than one method to the same account.

I use Attent on multiple devices.

That works, as long as you use the same sign-in. You'll see your devices listed under Settings → Reminders & devices. Each device schedules its own reminders locally; nothing is pushed via the cloud.

Messages & WhatsApp

How do I send a message via WhatsApp?

Open the moment from the feed. You'll see a few message suggestions. Pick one, edit if you want, and tap the WhatsApp icon. Attent opens WhatsApp with the text pre-filled; you hit "Send" yourself. Attent never sends on your behalf.

There's no WhatsApp button for my contact.

Attent needs a phone number on the contact to hand off to WhatsApp. Open the contact, add a phone number with country code (for example +31 6 …), and the WhatsApp button will appear on the moment. No number yet? Copy the message text and paste it into a chat yourself.

The suggestion is in the wrong language.

Each contact can have a message-language preference that overrides the app or device language. Open the contact → More detailsMessage language. Pick one of the presets or use "Other…" for free-form input (for example "Catalan"). Only AI suggestions respect this; the rest of the app still follows your device language.

Does Attent send messages on my behalf?

Never. Attent prepares; you send. It's a deliberate design choice.

Data & privacy

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings → Data & privacy → Export and tap "Export". Attent builds a local Excel workbook (.xlsx) of your contacts and events and opens your phone's share sheet, so you can email it to yourself, save it to Files, or send it on.

Notes are included by default; you can turn that off using the "Include notes" toggle in the same section.

How do I delete my account and data?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete account and confirm. All contacts, events, reminders, suggestions, device registrations, and your profile are recursively deleted before your sign-in itself is removed. See the deletion page for details, including how to request deletion by email if you can no longer access the app.

Where is my data stored?

In Google Cloud Firestore, in the europe-west1 region (Belgium), under your signed-in account. Reminders themselves are scheduled locally on your device. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

Troubleshooting

My feed stays empty even though I added contacts.

Attent rebuilds the feed on the server after you save a contact or event. Pull down on the feed once to refresh. Still empty? Check your internet connection, fully quit the app, and reopen it. If that doesn't help, email us with a short description.

Suggestions won't load.

Suggestions need an internet connection. Attent fetches them once per moment and caches them afterwards. Tap "Try again" on the suggestion card, or check your connection.

I see an error I don't understand.

Take a screenshot and send it to contact@thinkaholic.nl. Mention whether you're on iOS or Android and what you were doing just before the error. That's almost always enough for us to reproduce it.
